“The mountains are calling and I must go.” – John Muir 🏔

We lived in Montana before we moved out to the desert. We were 30 minutes from the mountains and whenever we needed a breathtaking view all we had to do was look out our window at snowcapped peaks! 😍 We spent many a day hanging out, exploring, and enjoying being in majestic wilderness that mountains supply. So many memories were made, and when we moved out to the desert that was one of the things I missed the most. After a few months the mountains started calling to us again and if you've ever felt the pull you know it is IMPOSSIBLE not to heed. So we packed up a lunch, drove a few hours and found our new happy place!

Being in the mountains is such an important part of our lives which is why when I saw the newly released Mountains Designs (aff link) I knew we needed them!!! Not only does it remind us of all the AMAZING memories we have made, but it's a constant reminder of "home" and how no matter where you are you are always connected to the mountains 😍 I was so inspired when I got this fabric that I KNEW I needed to make something for each of my little guys.

I had a vision and I knew the first thing I needed to do was grab the DREW JOGGERS (aff link) and the RUNWAY RAGALN (aff link) from Petite Stitchery and Co. I had some HEATHERED WHITE (aff link) and HEATHERED CHARCOAL GRAY (aff link) leftover from my Construction Christmas makes a few weeks back that paired PERFECTLY with the new mountain print. I got to work and after putting it all together I decided it could use a FUN vinyl design so I used some cuts I made up last year for the little guys bedroom decor.... This make completely BLEW my vision out of the WATER!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍

Now that my vision had come to life and exceeded my expectations I decided I would try my hand at a few new techniques with what the fabric I had left over! First I decided to try out the ELEVATION HOODIE (aff link) from Pattern Niche. I've had the pattern for a while I've always just been too nervous to try it. Which after I did it was completely ridiculous because it's actually pretty AMAZING!!!

After tackeling that I though "Hey I can do ANYTHING" so I grabbed my go to fitted t-shirt pattern, the BASIC TEE (aff link) from Pattern for Pirates and decided to try and do a simple cut out hack. It took a bit more math than I was expecting, but I LOVE how it turned out.

After that feat I decided why not try my hand at another brand new pattern, and try reverse applique too.... Let's just say I guess the sewing powers that be decided I needed to be brought back down to earth a bit because this one didn't turn out quite like I had hoped. The reverse applique wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but I tried to get a little too detailed and my machine wasn't too happy with me. Then the pattern I picked didn't have the best of instructions so the garment didn't turn out quite like I would of liked. Ohh well, you win some you lose some, and now I have a new challenge to work on.... mastering the cross over cowl neck!

After that ordeal I needed another win, so I decided to sew up the 24/7 TOP (aff link) from Ellie and Mac. The pattern calls for a knit and a woven fabric, but I figured I was being a bit of a rule breaker this week so why not try it out with 2 knit fabrics. I LOVE how it turned out!!

I had big visions of pictures with these tops.... I thought we would take a day trip out into the mountains and get stunning pics while out exploring. Then the kids started dropping like flies getting fevers and experiencing tummy/throat troubles. It turns out I completed everything JUST IN TIME, because after we grabbed pics really quick the virus that was running rampant through our house found it's newest host in me and I started spiking a temp 😫 Hopefully someday soon we will be able to take our new tops out exploring 🤞

In the mean time I will just lay in bed admiring some of the other AMAZING creations the Ash & Elm team whipped up using this FABULOUS new design and dream about our next adventure😍😍
