Little Lizard King Burges- Brittnie Landsgard
Going into 2022, I made many sewing related Resolutions/goals. Topping that list: sew a purse with zippers.
Little Lizard King came out with Bruges, a small purse pattern, perfect size for my daughter. Then Ash and Elm released their new base, Poplin. Everything was shaping up to be a great make. I ordered my fabric and hardware, and assembled my pattern. Then my zipper tape arrived. I ordered a metal zipper. Panic mode activated!
I didn't know how to sew metal zippers. Every video I watched said "never sew over a metal zipper". Another video said to get "Zipper Nippers". I shelved the project and scared myself away from it.
Then late February came around. My tests and projects were on the slow side and my beautiful glitter Poplin caught my eye. It was time, I was going to make a purse with a METAL zipper.
I finally found the YouTube video I had been searching for: how to sew over a metal zipper. Friends! It is easy! You hand crank your machine over the zipper! Guide the needle between the teeth! I was scared for nothing!
Have you ever scared yourself off a project, only to find out it wasn't nearly as bad as you made it out to be?
Needles are very important when sewing a purse. I used a Denim needle, on my beginner Brother sewing machine. I sewed through 8 layers of Poplin plus lightweight interfacing. The Poplin was a dream to sew, sat real well with no shifting and with the interfacing, it did not require a stabilizer.
The Bruges pattern is a great sew with well written directions. But, if you are like me and sometimes require a video, Little Lizard King has a great sew along group. Search Bruges in the group and you'll find videos covering every step.
My daughter, instantly fell in love with her purse. The pink glitter Poplin, is so her!
I am now eyeing Poplin for myself and plan to make another Bruges, later this month.
