Week 23: Something with a Collar
Another week brings another challenge from the 52 Week Sewing Challenge. This week we were tasked with sewing something with a collar. Lucky for me Goober Pea Designs recently released the Danica Dress (formerly the girls' Drama Dress by George + Ginger).
This simple and sweet dress has a lot to offer. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to make some adorable sister dresses.
The pattern includes two different skirt options, a slim and a full. Little one was adamant that hers be perfect for "spinning" so she got the full skirt made with some of the shop's royal velvet.
The full skirt cut passed the obligatory "spin" test.
Big sister opted for a sleeker silhouette and got the slim cut skirt from another of the shop's beautiful in stock velvets. She loves the color and the feel of her "furry" dress. It may not actually be furry, but it is definitely soft and touchable.
Slim Skirt in Turquoise Velvet
Each of the girls got a beautiful white collar to polish off their looks and give them that classic feel. I used some white double brushed poly I had laying around to make the collars. Little one got some contrasting top stitching using a single needle coverstitch to handle the stretch of the DBP. And a little bow to top it off.
So cute I can't even stand it!
I love the drape and movement of the velvet with the clean lines of the dress. Both the pattern and the fabric seemed to compliment each other as if it was meant to be.
Thanks for reading and until next time, happy sewing!
